Swedish builder Skanska signs $957 million contract to build light rail transit in California COPENHAGEN, Aug 14 (Reuters) - Swedish builder Skanska SKAb.ST said on Friday it had signed a contract worth $957 million with the Los Angeles County Metropolitan Transportation Authority for the East San Fernando Valley Light Rail Transit Project in Van Nuys, California, U.S.
The project includes the construction of a 10.8 kilometre (6.71 mile) at-grade light rail line and a 10.5 hectare (25.95 acre) rail and maintenance facility, Skanska said in a statement.
It also includes the development of 11 new stations including shade structures and utility improvements.
Skanska will include the contract in its order bookings for the third quarter of this year.
The East San Fernando Valley Light Rail Transit Project expands Metro's transit system, connecting high-density neighbourhoods to the broader Los Angeles County rail network and wider region, according to Skanska.
Work has begun and the project is expected to be completed in December 2031.
